On Tuesday, June 21, UP Wild hosted a Wilderness Walk that started at Marquette’s South Beach and ended at the mouth of the Carp River.
It was a beautiful, summer day. We hiked to a marvelous ecotone which is a transitional place between biological communities. This one was filled with wild rose, beach pea, irises and other plant life.
After a reflection on what was observed and experienced, the group walked to the mouth of the Carp River where Leora Tadgerson taught us about the Indigenous community that once occupied the land.
