Brother Thomas Steffensen Named Diocesan Chaplain

The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan is happy to announce that Brother Thomas Steffensen has been named Diocesan Chaplain.

Brother Thomas is a member of the Society of St Francis (SSF), a community of vowed Franciscan Brothers in the Episcopal Church, and part of a worldwide Anglican Franciscan community. Members of SSF blend lives of contemplation and active service to the most vulnerable in our communities, and Brother Thomas exemplifies this commitment.

Since joining SSF in 2016, Brother Thomas has worked with churches and individuals as a speaker, teacher, formator, facilitator, and chaplain. He currently partners with the Episcopal Diocese of New York, Virginia Theological Seminary, and Living Waters Cooperative. Currently, Thomas is studying Jungian psychology in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Brother Thomas has worked with our diocese in the past, facilitating listening sessions, participating in retreats, and serving as chaplain at our annual Diocesan Convention this past year. His experience and expertise in the areas of Mutual Ministry and community discernment, as well as his warm personality will be invaluable to our diocese. Thomas will continue to live in New York, but will join us online and in person on occasion throughout the coming months. Welcome Br. Thomas!
